Giorgio Armani FW '09 (Milan)

"Armani recaptured the power-woman vibe of the time via patent leather berets and gloves, wide belts, fire-engine red lips, and a soundtrack that featured a Grace Jones tune and a medley of Tina Turner hits." - Nicole Phelps / Style.com

LC is L.A. Candy

SERIOUSLY?

Lauren Conrad has revealed the cover of her first fiction novel, L.A. Candy, which hits shelves June 16.

What it's about: "a behind-the scenes story of a young girl [named Jane Roberts] who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality television show. The books will be loosely inspired by my own experience and are definitely influenced by my own life. Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out…" - Lauren Conrad

I'll say it. I hate it when book deals happen to people who don't really read or write.

Missoni FW '09 (Milan)

"Who wouldn't want to hunker down in one of Missoni's clever cardigan scarves? The models wore them loose, with the ends nearly trailing along the floor; wound around your neck, they'd make a coat redundant. And because even—or perhaps especially—in dire times a girl needs to go out now and then, Missoni added delicate, spiderweb-y dresses (shades of Rodarte) to the mix. Pair them with a slip and you'd have a sweet, unexpected party look. As if to prove the point, Angela's daughter Margherita wore one sitting in the front row." - Nicole Phelps / Style.com

Halston Fall 2009

I WANT NAMES

"As we continue to decompress from the glamour and glitz of last week, we're left wondering what ever did happen with the ticket scammery going on with the shows. As it turns out, while everyone else in the tents was busy preening and BlackBerrying, one savvy publicist from BPCM was fighting crime. Well, sort of: The publicist, who wishes to remain anonymous, tipped us off to two of the shady dealers who were selling "tickets" to the shows. (Silly scammers: They're called invites and they’re non-negotiable. That's your first mistake.)

To recap: There was the midwestern mom and her tween daughter who said they paid $12,000 for an all-inclusive Fashion Week package courtesy of Fashion Ledge, an online "magazine" whose landing page is like a mock-up for a pretend magazine (and is WELL worth checking out) — all airbrushed boobs and sad cover lines like, “Rocawear boots” and “How to shave your man for Valentine’s.” Shudder. According to the BPCM publicist who had to deal with them when they showed up at Erin Fetherston, the Midwesterners' spiel was something like, "We're not on the list and we're not supposed to say our real names, but we're with Fashion Ledge." Yeah, that's what you think, tourists. The publicist, realizing the two had been duped, took pity on them and let them sit at the show. The next day at Tadashi Shoji (another BPCM client), a different victim was stopped at the door — she claimed her invitation originally belonged to one “Yvette Coleman,” who happens to be listed as the fashion-and-beauty editor of Fashion Ledge. Coleman, with her husband, also runs a casting agency called Silver Poses." .... read more

About a Boy by Band of Outsiders and their FW '09 (NYC)

Designer Scott Sternberg offers adorable vintage prep school looks for his BOO boys and BOY girls this fall with an extraordinary theatrical presentation at New York Fashion Week.
An iMix including selections from Amelie, Little Children, Benjamin Button and Magnolia set the tone, (Click here) and park benches and lampposts as well as vintage desks and beds curated by Jared Lawton help illustrate Sternberg's world.
And what a world it is. Worsted wools, cashmeres, waxed corduroys, donegal tweeds and (gasp!) chinchilla fur make up his wardrobe of toggle coats, military shorts, slim suits and the most perfect pair of pleated trousers i've ever seen. Count on Tina Chai's impeccable styling to turn Harry Potter scarves and two-tone socks into the fall 2009 must-have for every outfit on every girl and boy.  Footwear collaborations with Sperry Topsider and Manolo tie into the collection with their jewel tone leathers and suedes, and transcend seasons with their ability to be worn with or without those awesome colorblock cotton cashmere socks.  Sternberg evokes a classicism that harks back to the time of newsies.  Updated, improved upon and relevant, versatile and cool, this collection has a bit everything so i'm just waiting around 'til i start seeing these looks everywhere.  Coming to a parkbench, a lamppost and picnic bench near you... - Christina Tung

Matthew Williamson FW 09 (NYC)

Luella FW '09 (London)

""Cute utilitarianism" is the tag Luella Bartley gave her punk-y, schoolgirl-y, military look that was marched out by a gang of girls who seemed to be going to the prom via junior cadet corps. If it was less clashingly bright than her outstanding Summer collection, it was just as assured and detailed (this time with lots of gold zips, buttons, and hook-and-eye fastenings), and essentially based around the same template of short dresses and neat little suits that won her British Designer of the Year last November. "

Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony (London)

New York City's own girl-about-downtown, Chloë Sevigny launched her recent collab w/Opening Ceremony at London Fashion Week.

"My references are all over the map," said Chloë Sevigny, "from skinheads to Connecticut kids to St. Mark's Place. But this all really started because I wanted to make a pink flannel shirt!" The result: androgyny with an indie/preppy slant. Sevigny's second collaboration with Opening Ceremony is a menswear collection that also comes scaled down to fit girls.

Twenty8Twelve FW '09 (London)

"Sienna and Savannah Miller were talking up a storm about the runway debut of their collection, Twenty8Twelve, which now has two stores in London and sells to many others around the world. Not that they were adamant about declaring any runway theme. "It started off as a grunge collection in one direction, then as a glam collection in the other," said Sienna, "and then it all met somewhere in the middle." Or, as Savannah put it, "Pirates of the road meets Grace Jones," adding that from the business point of view, "we're in a good place to show. ..."

Christopher Kane FW'09 (London)

"As for the dresses, Kane can apparently do no wrong either technically or in the eyes of the audience he's attracting, whatever the cost of the handcrafting involved.  What he achieved in appliqueing this collection's stripes on organza, making the geometry intersect in blocks or spiral around skirts and sometimes break into vertical ripples in hemlines, is extraordinary. ..."  - Sarah Mower / Style.com
